January 7, 2013 Meeting

 Lots of fun and learning at our first meeting in 2013!

Daisies learned about Gloria and "Respect Myself and Others" part of the law.  They each drew a picture of themself doing something to show that they respect themselves.  Most of the girls drew a picture of them eating a healthy snack.  We talked about all the ways we show respect for ourselves and others, such as changing our stinky socks, brushing our teeth, taking turns, raising our hands, being kind.  To finish earning the patch, each girl is to write 3 thank you notes and send them off before our next meeting.  For girls who were unable to attend, they need to:

• Read the petal story (if you don't have it, please let me know and I'll get you a copy)
• Draw a picture showing her doing something that shows how she can respect herself and bring to next meeting
• Write and send 3 Thank You notes

The Brownies talked about our Take Action Project, which will be with Mr. Scott and his bees.  We will make some plantable paper (when it gets a bit warmer so the paper will dry!) with flower seeds.  We will share this paper with friends and family, the Zoo and our sister troop in Tennessee.  We will also share bee facts when we give out the paper.  We will go back out to visit the bees this spring and plant flowers/seeds for the bees (and maybe try more honey).

We learned 2 new songs: Brownie Hiking Song (YouTube Clip) and the Brownie Smile Song.  Per the Daisies request, I am searching for some Daisy specific songs (though Maggie did not like the one I found earlier).  I will also try to share some camp songs on our blog so we can learn those as well.  Maggie & I did find the Bubble Gum song today and I'll share that later.

Cookie sales are coming! (I'll post a separate blog post with more information).  Cookie Rally is Saturday January 12, 1:30 - 4:30 at the Boys & Girls Club, 505 Orchard Lane.  Details & RSVP on Facebook.
